Construction Intern

Position Summary

The Internship role is responsible for coordinating and assisting in preconstruction and supervision of multi-family construction done by subcontractors to completion of a project for the duration they will be involved. This position is also responsible for functioning in a support role to the Project Manager, Project Superintendent, and Preconstruction Department.

Primary Responsibilites

  • Reviews plans and specs and assist in developing RFI’s to discuss with Project Superintendent and Assistants.
  • Prepare scope sheets for subcontractor bidding.
  • Assist Project Manager in building and managing schedules.
  • Prepares minutes of weekly safety, scheduling, and subcontractor meetings.
  • Inventory project materials.
  • Help track General Labor, Punchout Labor, Equipment Rental, misc. materials and other controllable costs.
  • Work with Construction President and Construction VP’s on special projects.
  • Help assemble bid lists and send out bid packages as needed.
  • Help develop scope sheets as needed.
  • Assist preconstruction department as needed, including takeoffs, calling subcontractors, etc.
  • Assist in project closeout as needed.
  • Coordinates final clean of apartment units prior to punch list and final turnover
  • Assists the project superintendent and assistant superintendents in monitoring subcontractor’s efforts to comply with the project’s safety program
  • Reviews shop drawing and submittals to ensure compliance with subcontractors
  • Locks up and closes the jobsite with Assistants.
  • Signs in new building materials
  • Assist with any other role in construction i.e., pre-con (including takeoffs and submittals, closeout, and maintenance)

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Previous construction experience preferred
  • Involvement in Bachelor’s degree program in construction management, architecture, engineering, business or related field is preferred
  • Current driver’s license and automobile insurance required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to problem-solve, make quick decisions
  • Effectively meet deadlines
