Project Engineer

Position Summary

The Project Engineer serves as a project manager for a variety of public works projects. This role is based in Carlsbad, CA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of highly skilled duties such as: assembling, coordinating and managing multidisciplinary technical review teams made up of professional staff from other city departments, other governmental jurisdictions and utilities
  • Facilitate and troubleshoot the myriad of problems associated with developing complex systems or with coordinating and development, design, right-of-way acquisition, construction and complex development of water, sewer and transportation projects
  • Provide highly skilled technical and management advice and assistance to department management and personnel
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants, affected property owners, tenants and the public and provides information pertaining to the status of projects undergoing city review
  • Chair various project review and pre-submittal meetings
  • Establish and maintain liaison as required with boards, committees and commissions
  • Assist in developing departmental plans, goals, objectives, policies and procedures
  • Perform project design for civil engineering projects
  • Coordinate schedules of staff and other interested parties
  • Provide supervision and guidance to all assigned staff

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field is preferred
  • Two years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Commercial Driver’s License Program (CDL)
